Distribution Center
ASSISTANT MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY
Assist with management and administrative functions related to the Distribution Center including personnel issues, training, warehouse operations, inventory control, and internal customer service.

Assists in managing a logistics operation, which ensures orders are selected, packaged, loaded and dispatched safely, timely and efficiently. Assists in managing inventory control operations to ensure accurate and efficient receiving, storage, flow and overall integrity of the inventory.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required: A Bachelors Degree (preferred BSBA), or 3 years in warehouse/distribution with 2 years supervisory experience.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Experience with Packaging, Shipping/Receiving, and Inventory Management. Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary. Excellent computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of MS Office, required. Experience in supervising staff required. Experience with planning space utilization and product positioning preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Authorized and responsible for following functions, in compliance with all BD quality, safety and policy procedures and requirements:

1. Actively participate in the day-to-day operation of the warehouse facility and manage warehouse employees by training, mentoring, coaching and directing to achieve optimal performance.
2. Maintain records of employee attendance and performance.
3. Initiate personnel actions for approval by DC Manager.
4. Anticipate staffing needs and communicate requirements to DC Manager.
5. Plan, organize and monitor the receiving, storage and distribution of all items received from vendors and Black Diamond manufacturing.
6. Suggest and implement new and better processes and systems.
7. Assist in evaluating space utilization and suggest methods for improving layout designs.
8. Assist DC Manager with development and maintenance of annual department budget. Work to meet and exceed the overall business and warehouse operational budget.
9. Maintain systems for effective & efficient formal & informal communication between warehouse and other departments.
10. Maintain a clean, well-organized warehouse and environment to enhance safety and increase employee productivity.
11. Maintain records and documents in compliance with ISO criteria.
12. Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, codes and laws.
13. Assist Supervisors and Merchandise Handlers as needed with hands-on receiving, picking, packing and shipping duties.
Logistics Operations
14. Supervise the preparation and shipment of orders to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
15. Ensure pre-ticketing is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
16. Manage shipping specifications for various dealers and ensure compliance.
17. Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with common carriers and supply vendors.
18. Supervise all aspects of traffic management for domestic and international shipments.
19. Order and maintain optimum levels of packing supplies.
20. Monitor carrier performance to ensure company and customer satisfaction.
Inventory Control Operations
21. Ensure inventory is accurate and organized at all times.
22. Perform daily cycle counts and make adjustments accordingly.
23. Analyze product locations and supervise product placement to ensure optimal utilization of space and maximum pick efficiency.
24. Supervise and assist with physical inventory counts.
25. Co-ordinate with quality assurance to remedy potential quality issues within finished goods inventory.
26. Supervise product re-work projects.

Finance
CREDIT ANALYST

POSITION SUMMARY
Monitor and reconcile aging to meet department goals and operational guidelines. Work closely with customers to assure timely collection of accounts receivable, manage company credit risk with customers to achieve corporate business goals. Help reconcile discrepancies with customers with assistance from DSS and the Distribution Center.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required: Associate’s Degree

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree

Work Experience

Preferred: 3 years accounts receivable experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Reading and writing, communication and pay negotiation skills, phone skills, time management, ability to prioritize tasks, knowledge of computerized accounts receivable system, 10-key, word processing, spreadsheets, basic mathematics, and basic accounting knowledge are required. Motivational and human relations skill are necessary. Ability to deal face to face with others in confrontational and stressful situations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Monitor the aging and consult with customers to work out various credit and payment arrangements.

2. Reconcile payment discrepancies as well as customer accounts, working with customers and internal customers until resolved.

3. Assist DSS and the Distribution Center to help research problems with invoice discrepancies.

4. Assist Credit Manager with ownership changes and new dealer applications by obtaining industry credit information, evaluating risk and creating customer accounts.

5. Review orders and customer accounts for credit approval.

6. Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed including daily tasks of department employees when absent.

Facilities
FACILITY MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

POSITION SUMMARY
Assist Maintenance Foreman with all aspects of repairs and maintenance
pertaining to BD Facility, the campus grounds and Manufacturing machinery,
equipment & workspace.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required: None
Preferred: High School Diploma

Work Experience:

Required: 1 year as handyman, janitorial, mechanic's helper, or carpentry.

Preferred: Worked in a manufacturing environment. Performed mechanical work on equipment. Welding. Landscaping. Driving of delivery trucks not requiring CDL.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Basic carpentry skills required; familiarity with basic electrical & plumbing repairs preferred; welding demonstrated mechanical aptitude; Level 3 English reading and writing skills required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Assist Maintenance Foreman with all aspects of maintenance and
repair of Manufacturing equipment, machinery and workplace all in accordance
with BD Safety and Quality procedures.

2. Assist Maintenance Foreman with all aspects of maintenance & repair
of overall BD facility, such as painting, carpentry, HVAC troubleshooting,
Fire & Security alarms & systems, minor electrical & plumbing repairs, snow
removal, plumbing and etc., all in accordance with BD Safety and Quality
procedures.

3. Assist Maintenance Foreman with all aspects of manufacturing &
facility recycling, hazardous waste handling-removal-cleanup, and daily
manufacturing facility clean-up & maintenance procedures such as trash &
scrap removal & recycling, all in accordance with BD Safety and Quality
procedures.

4. Assist with Outdoor Retailer Show. This would include all
preparation, assembly and transport of booth components.

5. Assist in preparation and setup of all BD meetings and sponsored
events

 
 
Product Development
CATEGORY DIRECTOR—GLOVES & LIGHTING

POSITION SUMMARY:
Serve as product and category champion, researcher, planner, strategist and primary communicator of category direction to company, especially to Marketing, Sales, Product Development team, and Finance. Develop, manage, direct and track all aspects of strategic global product and category line planning. Research, analyze and formally report on industry, competitor and customer use trends and influences to determine short, mid and long term direction of product, product line and category.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing/Sales, Engineering or other related fields.

Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering or other related fields.

Alternative to Education Requirement: Additional 5 yrs experience in Product Design and/or development, or business administration (10 yrs total) could substitute for Bachelor’s degree.

Work experience:

Required: 5 years post graduate experience in product line development, marketing or promotion, or business administration in the outdoor industry, or as a buyer of Climbing/Ski equipment for a large retailer of outdoor equipment.

Preferred: 5+ years experience in outdoor recreational product development, marketing or promotion.

Alternative to Work Experience: A Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Marketing could substitute for 2 of the 5 years of post graduate required work experience.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
An in depth knowledge of the category’s sport and products, industry & culture, customers, trends and competitors is required. Active participant in the category’s sport is required. Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and basic business computer skills (word processing, Excel, Power Point, Internet) are required. Budget and expense management experience required. Familiarity with customary product line financial performance measures, and product design and development processes required. Demonstrated ability to use discretion and independent judgment required.

Required licenses: Passport, Valid driver’s license and clean driving record


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (PRIORITIZED SAMPLE OF ACTIVITIES):
Responsible and authorized to do the following, all in accordance with BDEL Quality, Safety and Employee policies and procedures:

1. Research, develop, manage and direct all aspects of Strategic Business Planning relative to Category and product direction and development for both domestic and international markets and Director of Product Creation’s overall vision, incorporating BDEL’s business objectives and goals for revenue and margin, and communicate to & work with Sales, Marketing and Finance departments to identify and implement tactics necessary to fulfill key strategies for category and products in order to become, maintain or surpass market leader for both products and category; conduct presentations of product and category strategies as needed to Sales Reps and selected OEM customers.

2. Develop, manage, and direct all aspects of Product Line Planning and Management, for both new and in-line products, that are consistent with Category Strategic Business Plan strategies, in order to create product & product line differentiation within the market, provide clear category and product segmentation needs for various distribution/channel issues for both domestic & international sales; communicate as necessary to Sales, Marketing, production and development teams; conduct on and off-site product and category presentations to communicate same to selected OEM, Key Retail domestic & international customers.

3. Provide, monitor and update initial forecasts for products until production phase, create & maintain spare parts lists and forecasts for life of product & warranty period, coordinate product launch dates and phase out of declining product and efficient SKU management with PPL, Sales and Marketing;

4. Research, develop, and monitor product cost/margin/retail targets and category and product briefs, communicate details and objectives as necessary to design and development team, production team, Sales & Marketing, review and evaluate costing/margin/retail objectives at various stages of development to ensure meeting cost/margin/retail targets; assist Director of Product Creation with developing and monitoring of departmental, category and product development budgets, and marketing & promotional budgets relative to category.

5. Provide input to and conduct reviews of drawings, prototypes, etc. , both in-house and off-site, as required by product development team and other development resources to build prototype product within the agreed upon criteria, development timeline and budget.

 
Research & Development
DESIGNER III

POSITION SUMMARY:
Design, develop, and refine products to meet company goals – primarily the most complex & demanding of parts, surface modeling, in-line product refinements and new designs. Develop product specifications. Assist in the refinement of criteria for future products. Be an active participant on “Product Development Strategy Groups”. Establish control drawings of new products and update existing drawings per the BD DCO process.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related design field.

Work experience:

Required: 5+ years post grad experience in consumer product design

Preferred: at least 3 yrs of above experience in Outdoor Product design

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Efficient with CAD, including 2D, 3D wireframe and solid modeling, prototype building, metal goods manufacturing (for hardware designers); sewing, or textiles (for softwear designers) required. Demonstrated skillful & extensive Surface Modeling experience mandatory. Must possess an in-depth, working knowledge of rock climbing, backcountry skiing, and mountaineering equipment and their use as required for specific products. Demonstrated keen/visionary sense of esthetics & creativity compatible with BD brand mandatory. Engineering related mathematics skills required; word processing, spreadsheet and internet research skills required. Post Graduate design portfolio of products brought successfully to market required. Proven ability to meet design criteria & meet design timelines mandatory.Alternative qualification: 10+ years experience designing outdoor equipment may substitute for education requirement.Required licenses: None. A passport may be needed if travel outside the country is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible and authorized to perform the following duties in accordance with BD Quality System, Safety and Employee Guideline policies and procedures:

1. Design new products & in-line product updates/refinements as assigned, assist other designers with design details & esthetics as directed & assigned by Senior Design Team leader or Dir. Of Product Mgmt.
2. Create all the drawings, geometry and specifications for new products & product refinements as necessary for accurate prototyping, tooling & manufacturing.
3. Create prototypes when appropriate.
4. Ensure that designs and prototypes conform to the stated design criteria & specifications; communicate non-conforming design issues to the Product Design & Development Director.
5. Follow & adhere to the timeline requirements of the assigned project.
6. Mentor and assist other designers with modeling, design and planning skills and through lead-by-example exemplary design output.
7. Assist the design team in creating and maintaining the project and product files.
8. Assist PP&L, Manufacturing, Engineering, QA and Marketing in the creation of BOMs, manufacturing methodologies & requirements, and inspection criteria.
9. Participate in Product Strategy Group meetings.
10. Process Design Change Orders in a timely and accurate manner, and be the design signatory for products you have designed.
11. Research new technologies and materials for potential use for Black Diamond products.
12. Co-ordinate and develop relationships with outside vendors and design resources.
